1. The FamilySearch apps and Getting Started?

Hello! I am beyond excited to spend a little more time with you! I love you all dearly and I am especially excited to share a little about a passion of mine that has changed my life. Family history work is near and dear to my heart and regardless how old you are, or what your family looks like - it can help everyone. It can give you answers in your life. It can bring hope, and peace in ways you never expected. You will be amazed at how much you can connect with someone from years and decades, and centuries ago. I am going to school right now to become an investigative genealogist. I know that sometimes this work feels like it's for old people but I promise you -- IT'S NOT. It's for you! You can solve big questions. You can be a world changer by doing this work. You can find the coolest things. You can also make a difference for your family and for your testimony.

Here is the first challenge and how everything will work. I will give a challenge and then I will send a link to a blog post like this one, every other week. If you do the challenge, you will get a special prize. If you get behind, that's okay --- just start each time and do your best. If you get stuck or something isn't working, call or text me! I am happy to help. I can come to your home and meet with your family. I can help.

Ten-Minute Challenge #1

1. First, watch the video above and then, make sure you have a FamilySearch account. Make sure you know the login information and sign in. You will need a parent to help you get an account if you don't have one already. You do not need to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to have an account. If  you don't use a membership number, you won't access to temple ordinances but you can still use the rest of the website for family trees and research. Here are instructions in setting up an account with or without a membership number for a youth.

2. Second, it may be helpful for you to download the apps. If you plan to do family history on a desktop computer, or a laptop, you won't need the apps but if you plan to use a phone, or a tablet, downloading these apps will make it SO much easier.

1. Family Tree
2. Memories
3. Get Involved

3. Last step for this challenge! Take this test at the following link, "Which of your ancestors is this?". You do have to be signed in to take the test. It will test your knowledge on your own ancestors based on the pictures that are uploaded on your family tree. If no family history work has been done and there are no images uploaded by other relatives, or people in your family, this test may not work yet but don't work -- you can add images and do the family history work yourself to make a difference and soon enough, you will have plenty. Just trying this out counts!
